Overview

Milan is known as “The Fashion Capital of the World,” and with its dynamic business culture and work environment this stylish and sophisticated city offers vast internship opportunities.

Milan is certainly one of our best locations for fashion internships, but this Italian city has so much to offer in regards to career fields. As a driving force of business, finance, marketing, tourism, and design– Milan is a city where ideas are cultivated and trends are created.

Immerse yourself in this fast-paced, thriving environment of Milan– there are placements in nearly every career field.  An internship in Milan is a way to make your resumé stand out, experience a new culture, and gain valuable work experience.

A unique feature of our internship program in Italy is the language course you will be enrolled in before your internship. Summer internships are 8 weeks long, while a semester internship lasts 12 weeks. While interning in Milan you will be able to fully absorb the local culture and everything the city has to offer. Internship Opportunities

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for interns on this program, with the following academic options available:

The Global Experiences Enrollment Team reviews application materials, which are a combination of relevant work experience, college or university level course work, and an assessment of maturity and readiness for working in a professional setting. After a participant has been accepted, we guarantee an internship placement. 

Our team works with applicants 1:1 to gain a better understanding of the skills you will bring to your team, talents you want to grow, and expectations you have of your experience. By working individually with each intern we can assess academic knowledge, career goals, language proficiency, and overall expectations for your time in Milan, in order to place you in a dynamic work environment.

When you arrive in Milan, Location Coordinators will be there to help you start your internship and support you with on-site check-ins and coaching to make the most of your internship placement.

Adding credit can allow students to access existing financial aid options and gain credit towards graduation for many majors. This is suitable for students who attend a university that does not offer credit for internships. Some universities will require credit and we cannot change university requirements. For more information please discuss your situation with your program consultant at time of application.

Living Abroad

AIFS Abroad provides excellent accommodations, activities, resources and staff to help interns learn about and integrate into their host community.

Internet access is included in all AIFS housing in Milan.

Sports 

Two of the world’s major football (soccer) teams, A.C. Milan and F.C. Internazionale Milano, call Milan home. 

Architecture 

Milan is widely regarded as a global capital industrial design, fashion, and architecture. Modern skyscrapers, such as the Pirelli Tower and the Torre Velasca were built, and artists such as Bruno Munari, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani, and Piero Manzoni were attracted to the city.  

Fashion 

Milan is also regarded as one of the fashion capitals of the world, along with New York City, Paris, and London. The Italian prêt-à-porter industry is most present in Milan as many of the most famous Italian fashion brands, such as Valentino, Versace, Prada, Armani, and Dolce & Gabbana, are headquartered in the city.  

Amanda Vojvodin
M.A. International Arts Management, B.A. Theatre, Arts Administration, French Language & Italian Culture

Amanda is a Canadian who first moved to Europe in 2012 to study in Grenoble, France. There she was selected to be an ambassador to Canada as part of the Rhone-Alpes Jeunes Ambassadeurs program. She continued her studies in Milan at Cattolica University before deciding to move there permanently following the completion of her master’s thesis at SDA Bocconi University in 2015.

Amanda loves sharing her firsthand experiences as an expat living in Italy through her Instagram and YouTube Channels, La Vita è Style. She recently became a mom to Leonardo and loves spending time with him and her husband Michelangelo, exploring Milan and discovering new things in Italy. They split their time between Milan and Canada and spend their summers in Puglia – a part of Italy that’s close to their heart.

Amanda has been keen on sharing her love for all things arts, culture and history with new people since having the privilege to be one of the 40 Canadians selected to work as a tour guide at the Parliament of Canada from 2010 to 2014. She currently works as a marketing and events manager in the fashion industry in Milan, and joined the GE/AIFS team as the Milan Location Coordinator in 2022. She is excited to share her love for Milan with future students and ensure they live an authentic Milanese experience!

In addition to day trips and excursions, a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in Italy. Typical activities, tours and visits include:

  • Visits to Armani museum and Starbucks Reserve Roastery

You may be asked to pay a small supplementary fee for some events.

Optional Flight Package

Students can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS programs. Students who choose to book their own flights should meet up with group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements.
