History

Florence was one of the wealthiest cities in medieval Europe and became the epicenter of trade and finance. The city is also considered the birthplace of the Renaissance and has been called “the Athens of the Middle Ages.”

Architecture

Florence’s incredible artwork and architecture caused Forbes to label the city as one of the most beautiful on earth and the reason millions of tourists a year flock to see the historic center of Florence which is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Anna is the location coordinator in Florence. Originally from South America, Anna has lived in Florence for 7 years and has fully embraced the Italian culture, especially the food! She loves watching her interns grow up so much during their short programs and finds great satisfaction in helping participants throughout their international experience.

Anna has a strong background in marketing and event planning and manages the events at a beautiful rooftop restaurant overlooking the Duomo. Her favorite place in the world (other than Florence!) is Tel Aviv.

In addition to day trips and excursions, a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in Florence. Typical activities, tours and visits include:

  • Sunset Cruise
  • Affresco Painting
