Academics

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Founded in 1931, the Collège International de Cannes is a private institution of higher learning that draws students from around the world. The CiC was founded on the principles of international harmony and tolerance, with the purpose of introducing foreign students to the French language and culture.

The Collège has 22 classrooms, a theater, a recreation room, a volleyball court, a communal kitchen, a sun terrace and a magnificent courtyard where the beautiful view changes according to the season. It is situated on spacious grounds next to the Mediterranean Sea and is within walking distance of the Old Port and city center.

  • Foreign Language
  • French Language

French Language (Session 1, 2, 1 + 2, May Term + Session 1, May Term + Session 1 + 2)

French language is available at four levels from elementary to advanced.

All students take a language course. All students take a placement test online before arrival in Cannes. Students are advised to gain course pre-approval from their home institution for several different levels of French language in order to ensure that they receive credit for the level that they test into. Fifteen hours of instruction are given each week.

Consecutive sessions can be combined. Learn more about the May Term session.

Attendance in class is mandatory and strictly enforced. CiC policy is that students who miss a day of class for any reason other than medical will lose full or partial credit.

Credit Classes are held for 15 hours per week Monday through Friday and are recommended for 4, 8 and 12 semester credits depending on the program, or combination of programs, selected. An additional 1-credit elective course is available to students taking Session 2. It is at the discretion of each student’s college or university to decide how many credits to award. Students should consult with their university advisors prior to participating in the program to have course credit pre-approved.

Grades No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.

Textbooks Students should budget approximately €30 for required textbooks (refundable if books are returned).

Transcripts Students will receive a transcript from the Collège International de Cannes. One official copy will be sent to the student’s home institution on completion of the program.

Sandrine Passeron

Bonjour! I am a native of Cannes and became the AIFS Program Director here in 1999. I studied abroad for a year in England, a year in Spain and a third year in Scotland, encountering new adventures and challenges every day. It really changed me as a person and altered my perception of the world.

Along with traveling I enjoy discovering new cultures. I speak French, English, Spanish and conversational Italian. I have a Masters degree in Tourism Management and have worked in the tourism industry in Greece, Norway, Tunisia and Ireland. Whether it’s your first time abroad or your tenth time, every minute is sure to be a great experience. I look forward to helping you adjust to the new environment and sharing my culture with you.

The Program Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Social identity & access

One of the best things you can do before departure is enter into the journey knowing that your time abroad will be unique to this experience. The resources, community, and support available to you when abroad will likely be different as well. In order to help you prepare for your experience, we have compiled many resources about social identity and access in specific locations abroad.
